Josh Barker, Ph.D

Dr. Josh Barker’s research interests lie in the intersection of social influences, risk beliefs/behaviors, and media effects. His research investigates how the people with whom we surround ourselves, as well as the media we consume, influence our beliefs about addictive substances and, ultimately, our addictive behaviors. Since beginning his doctoral work at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, his research has incorporated social network analysis, large-scale surveys, and social media data to better understand how to craft, target, and evaluate effective anti-tobacco messages as well as other forms of health campaigns.
